Iceland draft picks - rounds 1 and 2

Hello sports fans. After analyzing the Icecats free agent and trade action in the offseason, it’s time to analyze their 2025 CCHL Entry Draft picks in the first two rounds. Iceland traded with Fort Erie to move up to pick number five. Iceland wanted a shot at one of the top 5 prospects in the draft and secured that spot with their trade. With their first pick, Iceland selected huge Brampton winger Porter Martone. Martone stands at 6’3” and 208 pounds. He has the size, skill and smarts to be a top line beast winger in the NHL. Porter will have time to develop as Iceland’s wings are quite full with the emergence of Aliaksei Protas, Dylan Holloway and Dmitri Voronkov. After securing a winger, it was expected that Iceland would take a dman with their second first rounder, given their penchant for drafting and developing defenders. To everyone’s surprise, Iceland selected another winger, Justin Carbonneau. Justin is a speedy winger with a hell of a shot. Ironically, his play is comparable to now teammate, Holloway. Like Martone, Carbonneau will have plenty of time to develop in the Q. Iceland’s next pick was in the second round and they decided to select goalie Joshua Ravensbergen from the WHL, arguably the best goalie prospect in this draft. Joshua is a big goalie, being almost 6’6” tall and very athletic. He has the toolkit to be a #1 goalie in the NHL in 3 or 4 years. Iceland will not rush Josh as they have some excellent young goalies ahead of him in Leevi Merilainen and Yaroslav Askarov. All in all, Iceland prioritized drafting the best available talent in the first two rounds and got some fantastic tale
