Dayton Musicmen Top Ten Prospects (December - 2017)

Top ten prospects as of December 9, 2017...
1. Robert Hagg (D) Philadelphia Flyers - As part of the Flyers top four defensemen, Hagg has proven he can handle almost 20 minutes of ice time a game while leading all team dmen in +/- with a +12 in all 29 games. Hagg leads all rookie NHL dmen in plus/minus, hits, and shot blocks. The 6'2", 204 lb, 22 yr. old Swede looks to be a top four and possible top pairing candidate in Dayton in 2018-19.

2. Malcolm Subban (G) Las Vegas Knights - PK's younger brother has played very well in his limited time so far this season. Among all rookie goaltenders with 8+ games played - Subban finds himself tied for 3rd in games played, 1st in wins, tied for 2nd in save percentage and 1st in GAA. Posting a solid 7-2-0 W/L record in his 9 starts, his playing time will be affected when Fleury returns, which is expected soon, but look for a platoon going forward the rest of this season. While DAY is expecting to re-sign Mike Smith to be their #1 G next season, if Subban winds up with 30+ starts, Smith may not stay in Dayton after all next season.

3. Thomas Chabot (D) Ottawa Senators - The former 18th overall pick in 2015 is back with the big club after a brief demotion down to AHL Belleville for a few weeks earlier this season. Loaded with talent and upside, Chabot seems more comfortable and confident this time. While his defensive game needs obvious work, his offensive prowess is already NHL caliber. Chabot has been rewarded with the 2nd most ice time on the Sens PP and his 6 pts. in 9 games places him 2nd among the Sens dmen in ppg. Dayton projects him to be a 1 defensive rating guy with decent GP and point totals. Power play specialist for 2018-19?

4. Christian Fischer (RW) Arizona Coyotes - After getting his feet wet with 7 games last season, Fischer seems to have a earned a full-time spot among the 'Yotes top six forwards in 2017-18. Currently playing on the 2nd line and top line power play unit, the former 2nd rounder from 2015
sits 3rd in goals and 6th in team scoring. Fischer also has the 3rd best shooting percentage on the team.

5. Travis Sanheim (D) Philadelphia Flyers - Sanheim has played in 26 games so far this season as part of the 3rd defensive pairing for the Flyers, and owns the worst +/- rating (-8) on the team. That may sound underwhelming, but recent reports suggest he's improved a bit on the defense side of things and everyone seems to feel confident that his progression will continue and the offense that made him a stud dman for the Calgary Hitmen back in the WHL will come around sooner or later. As far as his role in Dayton next year, Sanheim looks to be a bottom pairing or depth dman in 18-19.

6. Danick Martel (C/LW) Philadelphia Flyers - With 21 points in 22 games for the AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Martel continues to evolve as an offensive force in the Flyers system. A top twenty scorer in the AHL this season and would've been a top 12 candidate had he not missed a week and a half of AHL games while in the NHL. With a 3rd solid AHL campaign under his belt, there will be little left to prove for Martel after this season. Given the ages and limited offense from veterans Valterri Filppula and Michael Raffl, a spot seems to be almost ready and waiting. Martel, if he makes the disk, projects to be an M designee for the Musicmen in 2018-19.

7. Morgan Frost (C)  Philadelphia Flyers - Yet another Flyer prospect makes Dayton's top ten prospect list. Frost is on pace to obliterate his strong 62 pts. in 67 games from the 16-17 season in the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie squad. Similar to Martel's situation, Frost should see a serious opportunity to make the NHL Flyers within the next 2-3 years. Sitting 3rd in the OHL in scoring, Dayton has another offensive weapon in the pipeline.

8. Taylor Raddysh (W) Tampa Bay Lightning - Frost isn't the only DAY prospect in the top ten of scoring in the OHL. Tampa's Taylor Raddysh currently sits 4 pts. behind Frost in 7th overall in the OHL. Just 19 and already 6'2 and over 200 pounds, Raddysh will push for a job on the Lightning next Fall. Arrival time in Dayton is 2-3 years away.

9. Luke Kunin (C) Minnesota Wild - The 15th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft spent the first few weeks in the NHL getting some valuable experience with the Wild and now finds himself honing his craft in the AHL in Iowa. A big part of the Wild's future, Kunin is highly regarded for his offensive decision making and his high hockey IQ. Kunin will be in Dayton next Fall, likely as an M designee.

10. Mike McLeod (C) New Jersey Devils - The 12th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft was one of the best skaters in the '16 draft. A top end talent and point producer, NJ can't wait for him to reach the big leagues. An injury delayed his 17-18 season, but after ten games in the OHL, Mcleod is scoring at a better than a point per game pace for Mississauga. Look for Mcleod to join either the NHL or AHL Devils after the OHL season is over. Dayton expects him in the 2019-20 CCHL season.

Honorable mention:

Drake Batherson, Aleksi Heponiemi, Tanner Laczynski, Jonah Gadjovich, Cliff Pu, Dennis Cholowski, Daniel Vladar...
