Derek Ryan Leads Musicmen to another win, 3-2 over the Express...

Derek Ryan has 4 assists in his last 2 games...
It's been a long season for Derek Ryan.

The only Musicman to play in all 52 games so far this season, Ryan's offensive totals are modest. 7 goals, 15 assists, 22 points and a team worst -59 plus rating.

Ryan would tell you himself, he's not a top line center. He's really not a 2nd line center either. He's most effectively centering a checking line and killing penalties.

Given this season of change here in Dayton, Ryan has centered all three of the top lines and for better or worse, finds himself atop the team scoring stats with those 22 points in 52 games.

"No, I never dreamed I'd be leading the team in scoring right now," said Ryan after the Musicmen had won its second game in two nights after a 30 game winless streak. "It's only like that because of all the trades we've made this year."

After upsetting the Springfield Isotopes 5-2 last night, the team found itself in Long Island this evening and in a tighter game than the night before, defeated the Express 3-2.

Adam Cracknell scored his 2nd goal in two nights and his 5th of the year at the 7:18 mark of the first period. Defenseman Mark Stuart gave Dayton a 2-0 lead two and a half minutes later after a terrific setup by Ryan, who in fact had earned assists on both Musicmen goals.

"We had pretty good hop at the start of the beginning of the game. We outshot them 16-7 in the opening period, which is rare for us," said Stuart.

The game slowed to a crawl in the 2nd with the Express scoring the only goal to make it a 2-1 game entering the 3rd period.

Jason Pominville made it a 3-1 game after he scored his 5th goal of the season on a deflection that eluded Express netminder Henrick Lundqvist at the 2:03 mark of the third period.

Adam Henrique netted his 9th tally of the year in the game's sixtieth minute to close out the scoring.

Dayton had its 10th win of the season and drew within 3 points of the Express at the bottom of the CCHL overall standings.

Game notes:

Dayton went 0-22-0 during intraconference play, the worst showing in the CCHL.

Francois Beauchemin added 3 shot blocks against the Express in addition to his two blocks last night against Springfield to give him 35 on the season tying him with teammate Mark Stuart for 8th in the CCHL. Dayton's Matt Irwin leads the CCHL with 49 blocks on the year,

Dayton leads the CCHL with 189 blocks on the season. Las Vegas ranks 2nd with 171 and Sanibel is 3rd with 157 blocks. Niagara Falls has the fewest blocks on the season with 60, followed next by Reyjkavik with 70 and Siberia with 75 on the season.

Dayton will host the Fort Erie Falcons Saturday evening at the Soundstage.
