An epic collapse as Barracudas stuns Chinook 5-3

CALGARY – In a stunning turn of events, Ottawa scored four straight unanswered goals in a span of 7 minutes and 37 seconds against a puzzled Chinook squad to win game 5-3 on Friday night.

After one period of play, Chinook seemingly had the game in control, lead the shot clock by 21-3 and dominated on the faceoff circle. Hellebuyck stopped 20 shots alone in the first period while Carey Price let in a shorthanded goal scored by Helm on a two on one with Toffoli, who faced only 3 shots in the first period.

But the Barracudas stormed out of the gate in the second, with Holden, Spezza, Ryan and Ritchie scoring four goals. Pietrangelo and Reilly scored for the Chinook but it was too late and the league-leading team was upset by a score of 5-3.

There were time fans making mock cheers when Price made a save at the end of the second period after allowing four goals on nine shots during that span.

Chinook coach Eugene Yip called a time-out after the third goal, as his team looked shocked at the Ottawa onslaught, but things never improved from there.

“It was a disappointing for sure. “Said coach Eugene Yip after the game. “We dominated the game but Ottawa got a few lucky bounces and they capitalized on their chances. We had 55 shots of Hellebuyck. Sometimes that’s hockey. “

“I have to be better than that” Said Chinook goaltender Carey Price. “It’s really frustrating when the team counts on me to make saves but I let them down. “

NOTES:
After tonight’s game, Price save % went from 0.934 to 0.918
This was the first time Chinook were trailing the opponent after 2nd period
