Musicmen Acquire Damon Severson From Hammerheads...

CCHL LEAGUE OFFICES...DAY trades Marcus Petterson-p & POR 3rd-18 to HAL for D. Severson...

Dayton has acquired 23 year-old defenseman Damon Severson from the Halifax Hammerheads for prospect defenseman Marcus Petterson and a 3rd round draft pick in the 2018 CCHL Entry Draft next summer.

"We'd been scouting several young dmen around the league over the last few weeks and Damon was one of them that we really liked alot. He can skate and his offensive skills are already above average. We feel his defensive game is maturing and should be rounding into a very good form in a year or so." said Musicmen GM, Bill Corfield.

Next year should be interesting in Dayton as the defense corps looks to be totally revamped with only Severson and possibly Matt Irwin and Mark Stuart returning to the gem city. The rest of the Musicmen blueliners are in the last year of their contracts and barring a surprisingly good showing in the NHL, most won't return for the 2018-19 CCHL season.

Prospect Travis Sanheim and free agent signee Andreas Borgmann will likely be on the Dayton roster next season, as might be prospect Thomas Chabot if he is promoted to Ottawa this NHL season. All three players are defensemen Corfield projects as the core of the next Musicmen blueline.

"Those three kids plus Severson, Irwin and Stuart are expected to be in the mix for starting jobs next year. Its possible another man or two from this year's team could earn another contract for next year depending on how he does." said Corfield

Rumors persist around the league that Corfield is willing to mover one of his younger centers u exchange for a comparable defenseman to hasten the progress of the team overall. Dayton has an embarrassment of riches up front with Alex Barkov, Nate MacKinnon and Jonathon Drouin  the top three players chosen in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

"I am kind of blown away that Dayton thinks so highly of me and sees me as a key piece as they set up there team for the next decade or so. I know some of the other younger guys from different leagues and I think we have the start of something pretty cool going here. I'll do everything I can to not let anybody down, I promise you that." said Severson.
