Express run over the Miners, win 4-2

CANADIAN PRESS (Long Island, NY)

Colin Wilson led the way with a pair of goals and Dustin Brown added two assists, as the Long Island Express defeated the Sudbury Miners 4-2 on Tuesday night. The win exacts a little revenge for the Express, who lost in Sudbury earlier in the year.

Henrik Lundqvist was solid in goal for the Express, making 29 saves to get the win.

Jimmy Vesey opened the scoring for the Express, just 3:51 into the opening frame, with his fifth goal of the season. Johnny Oduya and JT Miller would draw the assists. That would be all the scoring in the period, and the Express would go the dressing room up 1-0 after one.

The second period was where the wheels fell off for the Miners. The Miners were out shot 20-8 the period and led by Wilson’s pair of goals in the period and the two teams would go into the final frame with the Express holding a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Miners tried to mount a comeback in the third. Goals by Radim Vrbata and Vernon Fiddler would close the gap to 4-1, but that was as close as it would get. Jake Allen, would made 36 saves on the night, took the loss for the Miners.

"We just are not starting on time, plain and simple." said Sudbury's Vincent Trocheck. "This is the second game in a row where we get down and have to fight back and in this league, the caliber is just too good. It wasn't (expletive) fun tonight. We got (expletive) embarrassed……again by a last place team!"

MINERS NUGGETS

- In an effort to try and shore up some of their goaltending woes, the Miners have recalled Aaron Dell from their minor league affiliate in North Bay. Dell currently leads the Trappers with a record of 7-2-1 and a 2.32 goals against average. He will start on Saturday.

- Jesper Fast is clearly in the doghouse. Even with his ice time reduced, he was again a minus -1 last night and sits among the worst plus-minus in the league.

- The Miners returned to Sudbury following last night’s contest. They have three days off before their next game on Saturday night, when they travel to Hamilton to take on the Tigers.
