'Men Drop Third Straight, Lose to Donuts 7-2

Coming off a poor showing against Portland two nights ago, which ended in a 7-1 thrashing by the Owls, Dayton was hopeful they would see an improvement and bounce - back last night.

Didn't happen.

By the time the first period ended, Wisborg led 4-0, outshot Dayton 16-10 and the dressing room for the Musicmen was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

"We knew after the Donuts beat Fort Erie the other night, they'd come out flying against us. The Falcons are one of the best teams in the league and clearly, we're not. They could smell blood and wanted to put us away as fast as they could." said Dayton winger Jonathon Drouin.

By the time the second period ended, the Donuts had grown their lead to 6-0 and the game was essentially over.

Wisborg's Leon Draisaitl led the attack with three goals and two assists.

"Word spreads pretty fast in the league about how teams are playing and what their strengths and weaknesses are. Dayton's really young up front, the defense is not what they're used to and their number one netminder is still out with an injury. It's a tough time for them, but they poured everything in their system into last year's Cup run. They're the defending champs, but now it's time to pay the piper and go with the young kids and older guys. This kind of thing will happen to everyone at some point." said Draisaitl.

Dayton General Manager Bill Corfield commented, "Kallum has a nice team this year and they're one of the faster teams we've played so far. They can fly. Gave our guys all kinds of problems in our own end. Forwards were missing assignments right and left and our defense was just overwhelmed. Jeremy did what he could do, but we had a feeling tonight might be a rough one for the boys."

What's Next:
Dayton flies home Thursday morning and will have an optional pre-game skate Friday morning at the Soundstage. That evening, the Halifax Hammerheads (8-5-3, currently 3rd in the Corfield Conference,) will take on the 'Men. Dayton is now 6-10-0, sits in 10th place in the Conference.

Brian Elliot is expected to be in nets to face the Hammerheads.

Bill Corfield announced the signing of free agent forward  Greg McKegg. McKegg, 25 has signed a 1 year, $650,000 contract. He is expected to provide depth for the Musicmen this season. "We'll be watching his performance in Pittsburgh very closely this season. Yes, it's a speculative pick that we see as low risk/moderate reward. We don't have a prototypical third line center who's ready to come up next year, so if Greg handles himself well with the Pens this season, we may resign him. If he doesn't work out up there, we've spent a small amount to find out what he could do."
