Niklas Backstrom’s goal midway through the first period, as the Georgetown Millers cruised to an easy 4-1 win over the Sudbury Miners on Monday night.

Mike Hoffman would also contribute, scoring his ninth of the year.  Mike Green and Rasmus Ristolainen would round out the scoring for the Millers.  Peter Budaj would make 23 saves for the win.

"We were giving up breakaways and odd-man rushes. When you do that you're going to end up on the losing side more often than not," said Miners forward Brandon Sutter. "We get a couple of days to regroup and go over what we need to do better, because of the last two games, the chances that we've given up, is definitely unacceptable."

Benoit Pouliot scored a meaningless goal for the Miners, who are now winless in six games.  Ben Bishop stopped 39 of 43 shots in the loss.

The frustration of the losing streak is starting to grow on the Miners players and coach Derek Sutton.

"Obviously, this is not how we want to be playing," Sutton said. "We have to have a harder mentality in terms of how we want to play, our compete level needs to be harder."

After the game, the Miners announced they had traded defenceman Patrick Nemeth to Halifax in exchange for prospect forward Nathan Bastian.  Bastian, a 3rd round pick in 2016 (63rd overall) is currently in his first year with the Binghamton Devils of the AHL.  He will report to North Bay and be in the line-up there on Thursday.

MINERS NUGGETS

- After the game, the Miners announced they have called up forward Brayden Point from North Bay, in effort to breathe some life into a stagnant offence.
