Chinook trade top prospect to re-acquire Aleksander Barkov

CALGARY –  For the past weeks, the Calgary Chinook’s performance wasn’t at its best especially the game against the Dayton Musicmen, the defending champion who is going through a full rebuild this season. After the defeat and second loss in a row. GM Eugene Yip had enough, he started by contacting the availability of Patrice Bergeron. After a few conversations with Minnesota GM Blake Wendt, Eugene thinks Bergeron’s price is too high for a soon to be an unrestricted free agent (also with a near 9 million price tag). Bergeron was ultimately traded to the Fort Erie Falcon, who was improving their team day by day. GM Eugene Yip felt the pressure to improve the team for the first time. Jordan Staal was another name that came up, but at the end, the trade didn’t go to fruition.

Then yesterday came a league-wide email from GM Bill Corfield form the Musicmen saying that MacKinnon, Drouin, and Barkov could be had if the price is right. Eugene Yip felt that Barkov is a good piece that complements Crosby on the second line very well, and Barkov has played with the Chinook for the past few years and he and Gaudreau has some chemistry going last season.
Eugene Yip and Bill Corfield finally pull the trigger last night. Calgary sends top blue chip prospect Cale Makar, Greenway and picks to Dayton for Barkov and 3M for some salary relieve.

“We are reluctant to trade Makar (who rumors say was packaged in a deal that sent Crosby to Calgary last month), but we realize our cup window are within these two years and it is closing fast. We think this is a good trade for us, now we have 3 lines that can score.” Said GM Eugene Yip.” I hope it sends a message to our group that we're trying to win it all here. “

Barkov will be on a line with Gaudreau and Pastrnak on tonight's matchup against the Fort Erie Falcon, expect to be a wild one.
