Falcons Stop Losing Streak, Winless Streak Continues After Tie With Dayton

The Fort Erie Falcons have broken their losing streak but still, have not found the win column for an impressive eighth straight game, and have only one victory in their last ten games.

Entering the season, many believed a strength of this Falcons team would be scoring goals.  Unfortunately, over the past ten games, that has proven to be more of a myth than reality.

The team's latest setback was a 1-1 tie with the rebuilding Dayton Musicmen.  The Falcons fired a team record 73 shots at Dayton goaltender Brian Elliott, and only found the back of the net on a Patrice Bergeron bank shot from behind the net with just nine minutes left to play in regulation.

Despite not winning the game, GM Matt Young was relatively pleased with the team's effort in the draw.

"We had 73 shots on goal tonight.  We outshot them 26-9 in the third period when it mattered the most.  What am I going to tell the guys?  Am I going to tell them to shoot more?  They are doing what they need to do, but we seem to be catching goalies at the wrong time.  If we start getting bounces, this team could score in bunches" said the exasperated GM.

Despite the obvious frustration, the spry looking Young was still able to find a bit of humor about his team's fortunes as well.

"Oh, and if Dayton GM Bill Corfield moves Elliott at the trade deadline, he likely owes us a draft pick for helping inflate his trade value tonight" quipped Young.

With the Calgary Chinook on deck for the Falcons, it appears that the team will fall to .500 after starting the season by winning 10 of their first 13 contests.

"At some point, this is going to break.  We can't get down on ourselves.  Not every goaltender we meet is going to be Superman and stop 72 of 73.  At some point, we're going to be goalie kryptonite and I hope that's sooner than later" said Captain Blake Wheeler before departing the rink.
