Chinook Trade Veteran Defenseman Andrei Markov to Millers...

CALGARY – After the acquisition from the package with Crosby that sent Andrei Markov to Calgary in the off season, Markov is on the move again.  The Calgary Chinook have traded Markov to the Georgetown Millers for Fort Erie Falcons third round pick in the 2018 CCHL Entry Draft.

On Wednesday morning, GM Eugene Yip informed Markov that he has been traded to the Georgetown Millers.  Markov, 38, has yet to play a regular season game with the Calgary Chinook.  “Me and Andrei had talked for the past two weeks discussing his future with the club this season.  At the end of the day, we have come to a conclusion that we need to find Markov a new place that he can play more minutes probably his last stint in the league.  Markov is a tremendous hockey player on and off the ice.  We acquired him in the off season thinking he could provide his leadership and experiences to the team.  Georgetown is a great city and has a great team, I think he will appreciate the move today.” Said Eugene.

The Calgary Chinook currently have LD consists of Ryan Suter, Mark Giordano, Kevin Shattenkirk and Karl Alzner.  “Looking at our LD, we certainly don’t have a spot for Markov.  This move helps us get back a pick that can refill our prospect cupboard and also shred some salaries (7.46 million) from the already expensive team,  “said GM Yip.  “Both of our 1st and 2nd pairings are able to play heavy minutes, I think we have a good group of defensemen moving forward as it is.  “
