Crosby, Weber lead surging Chinook to 3-1 win over Musicmen

CALGARY – Ryan O’Reilly scored the go-ahead goal on a breakaway with in the 2nd period, Sidney Crosby added an insurance goal and the surging Chinook stretched their unbeaten streak to 8 games with a 3-1 victory Sunday night that saw some of the Ex-Musicmen become the key of winning this game.

"I kind of feel like this is a special game for me and most of the guys that were with the Musicmen before getting traded to Calgary," Defender Shea Weber said after the game. "Anytime you get traded from a team and you move onto the next, you always want to play good against your old team.  It would be the same thing for any guy that got traded. It gives you a little extra motivation, I'd say." Weber scored in the 1st period on a slap shot from the blue line pass Elliott to tie the game at one a piece.

"Guys are playing well, guys are starting to stick together and find some chemistry," Calgary GM Eugene Yip said. "You have to continue to keep pace around the league. Everyone seems to find a way to win so you have to keep pace, and hopefully, somebody falters."  After eight games, the Calgary Chinook are leading the league with 15 points.

Former Chinook player Barkov scored for the Musicmen, who stole the puck from Pavelski and took a snapshot at the face-off circle and beat Carey Price to give the Musicmen the lead early.

"I think when you get traded, you feel like they kind of gave up on you and they got rid of you," Barkov said. "But you go to a place that truly believes in you, and you want to do your best to be better. It’s always feels good to score against the former team."

Chinook are leading the league in power play goals with 11 in 8 games at 23.9%.
