Dayton Comes Back From 3-1 But Blows Lead Late to Seattle

3 goals, 1 assist for Sean Monahan tonight

The sellout crowd at the Soundstage in Dayton tonight was not pleased to see the home team fall behind 2-0 in the first three minutes to the Seattle Reign, a team behind them in the Corfield Conference.

Patrick Wiercioch scored late in the first to make it a one-goal game heading into the intermission and the crowd was optimistic as the second period began.

The Reign came out strong and scored the first goal of the period to make it a 3-1 game and the boos could be heard all over the rink.

Then Sean Monahan took over.

Monahan scored the next three goals of the game to give the Musicmen a 4-3 lead with 11:30 left in the 3rd period, and on the Dayton bench, the mood was confident.

"We'd worked really hard to get back in the game - we led them in shots up to that point - we felt we'd found our game and should be able to beat this team." said Monahan.

Word was that Monahan had a few things to say in the Dayton dressing room after the first period. Something to the effect that the effort needed to be elevated.

Monahan scored his three consecutive goals ... each one unassisted.

"Sean just decided it was his puck and the Reign was going to have to find another I guess." said Thomas Vanek. "Nate and I were trying to help him, but he didn't need us, lol..."

Despite Monahan's performance, it didn't work out that way.

Seattle scores two more goals late in the third period to take the two points and leave Dayton with two points.

What's next:

Dayton welcomes the Lakers to town for a Tuesday night tilt at the Soundstage,

Notes:

Monahan leads Dayton in goals (7), shots (38) is tied for the lead in assists with eight, and has a team best +6 rating. He is tied for 7th overall in the CCHL in scoring.
