Miners tame the IceCats, win 3-1.

Two goals, 41 seconds apart, early in the third period erased a 1-0 deficit, as the Sudbury Miners beat the Siberia IceCats with a 3-1 win on Saturday night.

Defenseman Ben Hutton, who had his best game to date for the Miners, led the way with a goal and an assist.  Ben Bishop turned aside 34 of 35 shots to get the win.

After a scoreless opening period, Connor McDavid would put the IceCats ahead mid-way through the second period, tipping in a Marc-Edouard Vlasic point shot past Miners goaltender Ben Bishop.  That would be all the scoring in the period, with the Ice Cats outshooting the Miners, 8-5.

But, only 1:04 into the third period, Miners winger Marcus Foligno beat Ice Cats goaltender Matt Murray to tie the game at one.  Vincent Trocheck and Hutton would draw the assists.

41 seconds later, the Miners were back on the scoresheet.  Hutton, with his second goal of the year, handcuffed Murray with a soft wrist shot and gave the Miners the lead.  Tobias Reider would add an empty-netter late in the period to seal the win.

"This game is a mental battle. Confidence is a huge part of it," said Hutton, who has seen his ice time increase with injuries to fellow defenseman Darnell Nurse and Toby Enstrom.  "Wherever you can get it, however, you can get it, you want to use it to your advantage and just roll with it."

The win improves the Miners record to 5 wins, 7 losses on the season, and still sit in 8th place in the Canosa Conference.
