Georgetown Millers Acquire Simmonds, Markov....

Despite scoring 6 goals in their last game, the Georgetown Millers pulled off 2 trades this morning to further address their offense.

Wayne Simmonds acquired from Victoria for David Savard.

It had been long rumored that GEO was interested in Simmonds as far back as the off-season. Once Ronin GM Paul Canosa indicated that Simmonds was available for a defensive upgrade GEO moved quickly. Simmonds will bring a much needed physical element to GEO's scoring lines and they hope his net presence can improve the Power Play. Savard had been with the Millers organization for several years and his departure is said to have hit the locker room hard. Despite being on the 3rd pairing he was highly regarded for his defensive work on the Penalty Kill and his ability to chip in offensively. GEO management felt comfortable moving Savard with Brett Pesce and Rasmus Ristolainen ahead of him on the depth chart at RD. Replacing Savard will be Dmitri Orlov, who moves over from LD to make room for D Andrei Markov.

Andre Markov acquired from Calgary for Fort Erie 3rd rounder in 2018 Draft.

Markov will work with Ristolainen on the 2nd defense pairing as well as work the point on the 2nd PP unit. Markov gets good marks for his defensive positioning but his foot speed has been diminished due to recurrent knee injuries. Rumor has it the Millers may look to acquire another Dman to allow Markov to move to the 3rd pairing (where Paul Martin currently resides) to limit his even strength minutes and keep him healthy.

Both players are flying into Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and are expected to be in tonight's lineup. GM Chris Kash will miss the game while he attends a live screening of David Gilmour's "Live in Pompeii" concert movie.
