MINERS TRADE GREEN FOR PROSPECT AND PICK; SIGN ENSTROM

Toby Enstrom, the Newest Miner

CANADIAN PRESS (Sudbury, ON):
The Sudbury Miners and Georgetown Millers made a move early Sunday morning, as the Miners sent pending UFA defenseman Mike Green, to the Georgetown Millers in exchange for prospect Samuel Girard and Georgetown’s 2nd round pick in 2018.
Georgetown will take on Green’s $6 million cap hit for the remainder of the season.  With this latest transaction, Sudbury again moves a high priced veteran contract for a solid prospect and high draft pick.  Sudbury will pick nine times in the first two rounds of the 2018 draft, barring any further transactions.
“I enjoyed my time here with Sudbury.  The organization is top notch and I think they have a very bright future.  But, at this stage of my career, to be able to join a contender that has a chance to win, is very exciting”, stated out-going defenseman Mike Green.
The key to the deal for Sudbury was obtaining Girard.  Girard, who currently plays for the Shawinigan Cataracts of the QMJHL, is viewed as a top 4 defenseman with high offensive upside.  He is currently ranked as a Top 50 prospect in many circles.

To account for the loss of Green, the Miners moved quickly and signed free agent defenseman Toby Enstrom to a one year, $5.75 million dollar contract.  Enstrom, a 10 year NHL veteran, posted 14 points in limited action last year due to various injuries.  At practice on Sunday afternoon, Enstrom was paired with Aaron Ekblad, and all indications point is that is where he will play on Monday night when the Miners take on the Georgetown Millers.
