Falcons stay hot with 3-2 win over Halifax

Fort Erie, September 18, 2017 --

The Fort Erie Falcons continued their torrid start to the season last night with a 3-2 victory over the Halifax Hammerheads.

With the win, the Falcons gain their seventh win in eight tries to start the campaign but last night's win wasn't easy at all.

Despite firing 41 shots in regulation, the home team wasn't able to defeat the Hammerheads in regulation and required overtime to dispatch their opponent back east.

It was on the ninth shot in overtime and coincidently Nazem Kadri's ninth goal of the season that sent the Falcons' faithful into the streets with glee.  It was also Kadri's second tally of the game.

While the victory is nice, the game was a continuation of the early season domination of the Kadri, Kane and Reinhart line.  The line combined for all three Fort Erie goals and had seven points on the evening, with Reinhart adding another three points in the contest to his now league leading 15 points in just 8 games.

"Our line is really clicking right now.  I don't think we're doing anything different but we are making the most of our chances.  It's nice simply because I struggled in the preseason but since joining this line in the last few games of the preseason and into the season, we are doing a lot of things right.  It's easy playing with Naz right now the way he's scoring" said Reinhart after the contest.

Up next for the Falcons is a three game road trip starting in Portland on Tuesday night.  Fort Erie arrives to take on an Owls team that has started the year 2-4-2 however the Owls are fresh off a victory of their own.

"You can't take anyone for granted in this league.  There are no easy games and we'll be ready.  We can't take our foots off of the gas peddle the way Calgary are playing" said Captain Blake Wheeler prior to departing the arena last night.

The three stars from last night were:

Third Star - Sam Reinhart with three points
Second Star - Keith Kincaid with 46 saves
First Star - Nazem Kadri with two goals including the winner in overtime
