Another Loss, A Day Off and Changes On The Way...

Dayton went down to defeat last night, 6-1 to the Springfield Isotopes.

A sedate affair, with just six minor penalties called all night, surprised many of the attendees who expected a "boys will be boys" approach after the Isotopes shameless mugging of Curtis McIllheny, the Falcons netminder the night before as time ran out. There were no fights, no roughing penalties and not even a single stinky glove shoved in anyone's face.

Jeremy Smith played his last game as a Musicman, stopping 45 of 51 Isotope shots on goal. He wraps up his time in Dayton with a 1-10-0 W/L record, a Goals Against average of 5.65 and a depressing save percentage of just .861.

It is unlikely the club will retain his services after Mike Smith arrives in town after the games on Friday evening.

"All in all? This has been kinda brutal, to be honest with you," said Smith. I've been around awhile and this I think, is the worst I've ever seen in hockey. The fans are great and the boys are awesome, but the level of actual talent on this team is pretty bad. I know there are big changes coming in the next few years, but right now, we're a bad hockey team."

After the game, the front office announced both Jeremy Smith and forward Alexander Burmistrov had been placed on waivers. "It's time for those guys to get on with life's work," said Bill Corfield, GM.

Jonas Gustavsson will start Friday night against Long Island.

After the games from Friday night are complete, Dayton formally welcome goalie Mike Smith and forward Shane Doan to the Musicmen. Smith will assume the starting job, while Doan's role here is less certain.
