Georgetown Releases Statement Regarding Niklas Backstrom...

Saturday night Nicklas Backstrom's agent Gunnar Svensson contacted GM Chris Kash to discuss his client's unhappiness regarding no offer having been made to extend his contract. After reaffirming to Svensson that GEO is following CCHL rules in waiting until the off-season to tender a new contract, the agent requested a face to face meeting with the GM. Kash will be meeting Svensson at Greensboro airport this morning to discuss the situation further. Both camps released brief statements:

Svensson: My client would like a resolution concerning his future now, not at the end of the season. We feel after everything Nick has given this franchise he is owed the courtesy, league rules be damned. Either we come away with a commitment for the next 4 years of his career, or we begin exploring our options. We strongly feel that this uncertainty has affected Nick's performance and we are confident that his play will improve once this is resolved.

Kash: My only comment at this time is that Nicklas Backstrom is a valued member of the Georgetown Millers and we expect him to be in tonight's lineup.
