Latest from the Georgetown Millers Hockey Club...

Owner & GM Chris Kash will be traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountain area near the Virginia /North Carolina border for a work/scouting trip beginning Monday Nov. 13. Stops along the way will include Martinsville VA and  Greensboro NC. He will return to Georgetown KY on Tuesday Nov. 21.

Despite public statements that the team is done dealing, several anonymous sources say the team has discussed adding another Defenseman to the roster. The main stumbling block is the Miller's unwillingness to deal any core players or top prospects, preferring to bring in a rental at a reduced acquisition cost.

Viktor Stalberg and Blake Comeau, currently in the minors, have not publically requested a trade but it's believed they both feel they can contribute to other CCHL teams and are not satisfied being held onto as depth pieces. The club has not actively shopped either but are said to be open to discussions.

Nicklas Backstrom is still struggling, and the coaching staff would like to see him shoot the puck more. To that end Teuvo Teravinen is now on his line, as he is considered to be a pass-first player despite having 11 goals and just 9 assists so far. Reilly Smith would seem to be a better fit but to date Backstrom and Smith have shown no chemistry when placed together.

Paul Martin has gone from a very expensive 7th Defenseman to a regular starter since Roy Sommer took over as coach. He has played well with Rasmus Ristolainen, forcing Dmitri Orlov to the 3rd pairing and Brett Pesce and Brendan Dillon to rotate opposite Orlov.

As the holidays approach. the Millers have teamed up with the Kentucky Horse Park to offer a buy one/get one free promotion for the KHP's Southern Lights program. Each game ticket purchased between now and the end of the year includes a voucher for the self-driven tour of the Horse Park's Christmas Lights display.
