Calgary ruins a good night in Springfield

Rude welcome for new Isotopes for Malkin and Greene who were both dressed for the dressing down performed by the Chinooks last night.  In an unceremonious debut, Calgary beat Springfield 5-1 with the ‘topes only goal coming in garbage time to ruin a shutout bid by Howard.

“To be honest we were gearing up for this game, Geno (Malkin) was brought in to make our team more of a powerhouse and tonight we just didn’t have it.  We may need to juggle the lines a bit to see where everyone fits best”, said Isotopes GM Aaron Stacey.

Looking forward the Isotopes have tonight off before three games in three night with the first at home against Seattle, on the road against rivals Fort Erie, and finally visiting cellar dwellers Dayton.

Today the Isotopes had a mandatory practice that seemed focused on shooting on net.  The game against the Chinook featured only 26 shots on net and at the best of times, that is rarely going to be enough, with a team like Calgary it turned out to be something the Isotopes could not overcome.

Crosby led the way with 3 points and increased his lead in the point race.  Getzlaf and Arvidsson each came away with an assist on Goligoski’s shorthanded goal.

The Isotopes outhit the Chinook 25-14 but that didn’t seem to matter in this lopsided game.  Kyle Turris is said to be impatient as he waits for his turn to get back in the lineup, unfortunately (for him) the Isotopes are full of well-rounded players and he will have to learn his craft from the bench.
