Pregame Report: SPR visit DAY...

Dayton won't be putting up with any nonsense from Brenden Gallagher tonight when the Isotopes come to town.

Word spread fast around the league last night about the "accidental" elbow Gallagher took out Falcon netminder Curtis McElhinney with time winding down.

Media reports suggest that the Falcon netminder is fine, but various players from Fort Erie told the media, off the record, that Curtis was struggling after the game.

One report described how McElhinney vomited on top of Falcon General Manager Matt Young's desk. An alternate version said McElhinney didn't throw up on Young's desk, but rather he actually puked all over the GM himself.

Another story attributed possibly to Falcon netminder Philipp Grubauer said flat out that McElhinney had succumbed to his injuries in the dressing room and had, in fact, expired. There was something else about no trouble now hitting my bonus for games dressed, but we've been unable to confirm that.

"If the 'topes think they're going to come into our barn and run around like idiots, well - that's not going to happen." said newly crowned Captain Damon Severson. "We have a few guys who have played with McElhinney on our way up. He's a good guy who makes the backup job look easy when we all know it's not. It sucks. It blows. Curtis just keeps a smile on his face no matter what and Gallagher runs him with an elbow? No, that's not ok. We've adjusted our lineup a bit just in case the visitors want to be silly." said Severson.

Here's something for you press guys to make sure they all hear, ok? Put it on their bulletin board.

"Springfield is in the fight of their lives in their conference for a playoff spot. 3 points out of first place, but just 6 points from being out of the playoff picture. Look at Sanibel. A few weeks ago they were in first place. Now, they're on the outside looking in."

"The Isotopes have a LOT to play for. What are we playing for? Well, a job on this team next year for starters. Other than that, we're not going anywhere and we know that. So, if there's a bunch of fights tonight and rough play, we know how our season ends, know what I'm saying?" said Severson with a wink?

Game Notes:

*Dayton traded Victor Mete to the Portland Owls for netminder Mackenzie Blackwood. "We like Mete a lot, but most of the guys around here prefer vegetables, so we went out and got Blackwood," said Corfield.

*Rumors of a new first line to start the game appear true as Corfield announced the 1st line of Ryan-McAnn and DiGiuseppe will start the game with Stuart and Severson on D. "If they want to play hockey, great - fine by us. If they want to dance, well, then - we'll dance, eh?" said Phil DiGuiseppe.

*Jeremy Smith will get what appears to be his last start for Dayton in nets tonight. Jonas Gustavsson is slated to start Thursday night against the Express. "We wanted to give each guy one more start to try and showcase their skills before Mike Smith arrives after the games on day 76. Maybe someone will want to acquire them? I've been looking for some scouts to show up but so far, nothing on that front." said Corfield.

*Nate Archibald and Chad Ruhwedel will both get their first starts of the season tonight.

*Scott Upshall remains a healthy scratch as after the 41 game mark has been met on it is widely expected he will be traded elsewhere.
