Chinook winning streak ends with mistake-ridden loss to Icecats

SIBERIA – As the saying goes, all good things come to an end.  You knew the Calgary Chinook’ record-setting winning streak wouldn’t last forever, and it’s now toast after Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Siberia Icecats.

The Chinook was gunning for a 10th consecutive triumph, but they were ultimately undone by a bit of bad luck — some sloppy play and costly mistakes.

“I’m not going to stand here and throw my guys under the bus because they won 9 in a row and lost one here,” said Chinook head coach Eugene Yip. “Siberia was better than us and that’s why they won.

“We just didn’t have enough to take on another good team. It is disappointing. But at the same time, you’re not going to win every game. We understand that. It’s going to be how we react coming back.”

Like any squad on a long tear, the Chinook was due for a dud.

On Tuesday, their passes weren’t as crisp.

Their intensity level didn’t seem quite as high.

Their stars didn’t accomplish much and Carey Price didn’t have his finest night.

Ferland scored in the first period, Crosby scored another in the third period but it wasn’t enough to come back for a win.

With a 14-0-1 mark in their last 15 outings, the Chinook was shooting for a new record in franchise history.

“It was a great streak,” said Chinook captain Sidney Crosby. “We have to regroup, though, and not let this one get us down too much. It’s disappointing, but you move on.”

NOTES:
The Icecats outshot the Chinook 40-37.

UP NEXT:
Next up for the Chinook is Wednesday visits against the Minnesota Norsemen, who just have a back to back shutouts.
