Calgary Chinook get two goals from Shea Weber in 7-2 rout over Sudbury Miners.

CALGARY –  The Chinook continues their winning way thanks to the dominant second and third period.  Silfverberg and Weber each scored two goals and Crosby had three assists as the Chinook win by a score of 7-2 over the Sudbury Miners.

After the GM Eugene Yip made significant changes through the summer as the Calgary Chinook acquired Shea Weber from the Dayton Musicmen, Shea had adjusted to Calgary quite nicely with nine goals this season, good for 2nd in defensemen goal-scoring category.

The Chinook outshot the Miners 52-15 for the night.  However, it was the Miners who started the scoring in the first period despite getting outshot by 15-4.

“You know how hockey is,” Eugene said. “They score on one of those early goals, they get confidence, we lose some and the game could be different.”

The floodgate opened early in the second period when Silfverberg tipped in the shot by Niederreiter that changed direction and fooled Miners goaltender Ben Bishop.  It was all Chinook after that.

The line of Smith, Foligno and Donskoi were outmatched most of the game, they were -5 at the end of the night.

“That was pretty darn close to how you’d want to see every game go,” Weber said. “The guys played great tonight, Price did great and we got some goals.”

“You could see they were hungry out there, not only in games but in practice,” Coach Eugene said. “You can feed off that for sure.”

NOTES:

Crosby leads the league in point with 53 after this game.
