Gaudreau scores lone goal as Price, Chinook shut out Express 1-0

Gaudreau scores lone goal as Price, Chinook shut out Express 1-0
LONG ISLAND Sometimes one goal is all it needs.
Johnny Gaudreau scored his tenth goal of the season, Carey Price stopped 20 shots for his 4th shutout of the season and the Chinook defeated the Express 1-0 on Monday night.
We just showed how we can play,” Price said. “This time of the season, that’s the way it is going to be. Going into the playoffs, towards the end of the year, every game is going to be tight. There’s not much room for error, so you’ve got to be pretty good.”
While the Express were able to outshot the Chinook in the first period, it was the Chinooks’ forecheck that set up the only goal of an intense and tight game.
The Chinook took advantage of penalty from Express’ Nelson, Johnny Gaudreau shot the puck through three layers of screen on the power play, goalie Martin Jones never saw it and he buried his shot 2:05 into the second period.
We get in, put some pressure on them and we got a bounce,” Gaudreau said.
From that point on Calgary was able to rely on its sound defense.
I think that’s the way we have to play,” Suter said. “We’ve got to get back to defense first and I think the last little bit we kind of went sideways and it’s good to see we’re back on track now.”
Despite the goal, Jones was brilliant tonight as he made 36 saves for the Express.
NOTES:
Chinook won 32 of the 50 face offs.
Vanek lead the team with 6 shots.

UP NEXT:

The Chinook will travel to Iceland to play against the Rejkjavik Puffin on Wednesday.
