Giordano’s second period goal lifts Calgary Chinook over Victoria Ronin 2-1

CALGARY –  It was the start of the second half of the regular season.  Carey Price only need to make 12 saves to backstop the Chinook to a 2-1 win over the Victoria Ronin at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday.  Although the shots are 45 to 13 in favor of the Chinook, but the game are closer than the shots indicated.
"I hadn't played much (with the emergence of Howard and Smith last game as the Chinook) and now I was able to get a chance and, of course, you want to do well and help the team," said the 30-year-old veteran goalie from Anahim Lake, BC, who was selected first overall by the Calgary Chinook at the 2005 CCHL Draft. "Everything's hard. It's hard to play every night. It's hard to play once in two weeks. You just have to go out there with a fresh mind and believe in your abilities as a goalie."
"He was huge at some points in the game," said Chinook defenseman Mark Giordano, who scored the game-winning goal just 1:18 for the Chinook in the second period. "Thanks to him. We all know he's a good goalie. Doesn't matter who is playing. You've just got to be strong for the team and strong for the group and just try to find a way to win the hockey game. That's the bottom line."
Crosby also scored for the Chinook, who has 33 goals this season.  Nugent-Hopkins scored for Ronin, while goalie Elliott finished with 43 saves.
The Chinook failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
"our power play needs to start helping us," said Calgary coach Eugene Yip. "We are a little passive. That's what happens when you think too much on the power play, trying to make the perfect play, you become unsure of yourself. We have to find that mojo back here.”
There was no score in the third period for both teams.
"I'm just trying to get the shot to the net," said Giordano, who scored his seventh goal this season. "That's all that I'm trying to do and it worked out."
"I thought it was a pretty even game tonight," said Calgary forward Johnny Gaudreau. "Both teams had their moments. The game can go either way. “
