Trades Keep Coming In Dayton! (Vanek gone to CGY for Beaudin and three picks....)

Future 3rd line center in Dayton?

Another day, another trade for the Musicmen!

The deal's details: DAY trades T. Vanek & $6.1M to CGY for JC Beaudin-p, CGY 2nd-18, CGY 7th-19 & CGY 8th-19...

Vanek was playing out the last year of a contract that Dayton had no interest in renewing. "Thomas has been great this season, under difficult circumstances. A lot of changes and we knew he was hoping for a nice year stats wise so he could generate some interest around the CCHL for the next cycle of UFA Bidding. After CGY announced they were looking for a 1st line winger, the more I thought about it, the more it made sense if we could craft the deal in such a way that it made sense for both teams. Eugene and I have talked a lot this season and with so many of our former players over there, I made the case for Vanek and Yip agreed. Once we figured out the picks and prospect coming our way, we pulled the trigger." said Bill Corfield, Dayton general manager.

By sheer luck, Vanek took advantage of the schedule off day for Dayton to fly back to the Calgary metro area and visit his ailing mother in Rosedale.

"I was stunned when Bill called me and said don't go to the airport until he talked to me. I didn't understand, but wow, standing in my Mom's living room, with her eyes filling with tears as she began to figure out what had happened. She's so happy, you have no idea. I am too!" said Vanek.

Vanek is expected to provide some scoring punch and depth as the Chinook look ahead to the playoffs.

Coming to Dayton is former 3rd round pick of the Avs, JC Beaudin. Beaudin, 20 years old, moved from the QMJHL to the ECHL in Colorado so he's very close to the parent club's watchful eyes. "They've talked to me about just relaxing and learning the pro game. No one is sure if my offense will translate as the competition gets harder, but everyone has been very encouraging that my defense game and faceoffs are already NHL caliber. I know (fellow Dayton prospect) Jack Studnicka from a summer league we played in and he has a great game and also projects to a NHL defensive-minded forward. Who knows, maybe he'll play on my line someday, lol!!!" joked Beaudin.

Also coming to Dayton is Calgary's 2nd round pick in the 2018 CCHL Entry Draft and 7th and the 8th rounder in the 2019 entry draft.

The picks now take us over 100 in all for the next two drafts, so we're beyond thrilled. On September 1st, we held the rights to 37 draft picks for these two upcoming drafts. We were pretty happy then, but to have basically tripled that amount to over 100 picks? We're not giving away any secrets, of course, but we have the most scouts already in the field. North America, Europe, Russia, Asia, etc. Our prospect data team is already putting in long hours as they crunch all the numbers our scouts send into us. We plan on availing ourselves of every possible resource we can afford as we build toward the draft. Draft strategy meetings will begin the first week of January, first on a bi-weekly basis, then more often as we get closer to the draft." said Corfield.
