Chinook sweeps road trip with 4-2 win over the Islanders

SANIBEL –  The Calgary Chinook are heading home in finer shape than when they left, gaining some confidence after winning all three games on the short road trip.
Sparked by a pair of late goals in the second period by captain Sidney Crosby, the Chinook earned a 4-2 victory over the Sanibel Islanders on Monday night.
Carey Price, making his third-straight start between the pipes, made 25 saves as the Chinook posted another sound performance on the road, after dumping the Sudbury Miners 4-1 on Sunday.
"We're grinding teams down. We're getting pucks deep and we're grinding on their defence," said Crosby. "We're being simple when we need to be simple, and then when we have a chance our skill comes out. You can't argue we have a lot of skill on this team, but knowing when to use it is key and that's what we've been doing lately.”
Islanders defenseman Phaneuf opened the scoring late in the first period.  Pietrangelo scored just sixteen seconds into the second but later TJ Oshie from the Islanders regained the 2-1 lead.
Sidney Crosby tied the game at 2-2 with his 34th goal of the season and Crosby then scored his second of the game on a laser from the slot with just over two minutes left in the second period. Vermette added an empty net goals with 34 seconds left in the third period.
Chinook head coach Eugene Yip said Sidney Crosby was a force all night long.
"He was good at both ends. He battled hard. Sid just dominates for the last 20 games" he said. "We totally take Crosby for granted. He’s been that good."
Crosby finished with a pair of goals, with six shots on net.  Crosby now has 73 points, which is 8 points ahead of Springfield’s Getzlaf for the point scoring race.  Crosby is also leading the Goals category with 35 goals, one ahead of Fort Erie’s Kadri.
“We will be hosting the two teams that beat us last time around (Icecats, Norsemen), we have to be ready.”
NOTES:
Kris Letang was once again healthy scratch.
