Falcons Skate to 1-1 Tie with Victoria, Glad to be heading home, also lose Spurgeon...

Spurgeon being helped from the ice in Victoria
The Fort Erie Falcons concluded their road trip in Victoria tonight, ending it with a 1-1 tie against the Ronin.

The game was exactly what you would expect from the Falcons; a team playing their fourth game in four nights.

Adding to the woes of the Falcons, Jared Spurgeon was forced to leave the game after just three minutes of ice time after suffering an injury following a collision with the Ronin's Jamie Benn.

It was a scary scene at first as Spurgeon needed help getting off of the ice but post game the team confirmed that it was only a charley horse and the defenceman should be ready to go for the team's game against Sudbury on Wednesday night.

The game itself was one the team would like to forget, as it would only muster 31 shots against the Ronin.

James van Riemsdyk scored just 53 seconds into the game but that would be all the offense for Fort Erie on the night.

JVR was able to bang home a rebound from a Dougie Hamilton point shot on the power play to put the visitors up 1-0.

The score would remain that way until Victor Rask was sprung on a breakaway by Namestnikov with just over five minutes to play in the third.  Rask would make no mistake and beat Falcons' goaltender Philipp Grubauer between the wickets to tie it up.

Following the game, Fort Erie GM Matt Young said he was pleased with the effort of the team despite blowing the late lead.

"We played as good as we could have expected with our fourth game in four nights and with only five defencemen  I'm happy that one is over and we can travel back home tonight and get ready for what will surely be a hungry Miners team on Wednesday," said Young.

The team sent Sven Andrighetto home earlier in the day after the young player requested a trade.  Realizing he was blocked and deserving of playing time, Young said he would try to accommodate his young winger with a move to allow him to play more.

"Sven is one heck of a young player.  We like him a lot but we realize his concern and it's a big concern of ours, especially with our roster situation.  Hopefully, we can move him in the coming days."

The team will travel back to Fort Erie tonight and will have a day off tomorrow before getting back in action with another three-games in three-night sets starting Wednesday.
