Chinook outrun Express with a 9-1 win. Newcomer Vanek with 3 points.

Is Vanek happy to leave Dayton for Calgary? You be the judge.
CALGARY –  Never did Thomas Vanek thought that he would be playing with one of the league best center in a matter of a day before the Chinook game.  Thomas Vanek was acquired by the Calgary Chinook to help with right-wing depth to an already impressive lineup.
Vanek was traded to the Chinook along with some financial help (6.1M) for prospect JC Beaudin, Calgary’s 2nd round pick in 2018, Calgary’s 7th and 8th round pick in 2019.

“Everyone knows that we are trying to add a right winger last week.  “Said, Eugene Yip. “A few teams were interested but It wasn’t what the Chinook Is looking for.  Then Dayton GM Bill Corfield came calling just hours before the game.  We talked back and forth, counter offers were made and the deal is done.”

The 33-year-old can still provide some punch. While he’s far removed from the days when he was a surefire 30-goal and potential 40-goal scorer, Vanek has still shown a certain scoring knack in recent years. This past season, Vanek scored 17 goals in 68 games, firing along at a nearly 13 percent shooting clip in limited minutes, Top scorer? Not quite. But he’s still effective.

Vanek scored once and added two assists tonight versus the Long Island Express playing alongside with Crosby and Gaudreau.  Vanek has six shots on goal and +4 for the night.  “I was thrilled to be coming here.  I get a chance to win a cup here.  “

Panarin had one goal and four assists for the season-best 5 points playing in the second line and Letang came up huge with 4 assists playing 22 minutes since Shattenkirk is out in the middle of the game.

The Chinook got goals from seven different players and points from 14 of their 18 skaters, scoring nine for the first time this year.

“It’s important that we get goals without Sidney from a confidence point of view. But we have to park this and we move on (to the Reykjavík Puffins tomorrow).”

NOTES:

Shattenkirk is out for 3 more days with a flu
Howard continues to win for the last three starts.
