Crosby scores twice as Chinook edge Ronin

CALGARY –  Sidney Crosby looked determined not to let the Calgary Chinook lose another game, so he took things into his own hands.

Crosby scored two goals, including the game winner in the second period, and added an assist to help the Chinook beat the Victoria Ronin 4-2 on Friday night. The Canadian center was arguably the best player on the ice, put 6 shots on target and a plus 3 to finish off the game.

''Sometimes you have some games where most things are just going right for you,'' Crosby said after the Chinook improved to 26-3-2 in the standing. ''And I think tonight was one of those games for our line and I think we even could've had a couple more.''

The Ronin could've had more goals, too, were it not for Vezina Trophy finalist Carey Price, who made 18 of his 20 saves in the third period. Victoria outshot Calgary 11-10 in the first period.

Crosby was hot Friday night from his first shift. He raced down the ice on a backcheck and sent the puck up ice to set up Pavelski's goal in less than a minute played in the first period.

''It's nice to get on the board early. I think it allows the coach to roll four lines a little more and get everyone into their game.'' Said Pavelski.

Crosby scored his first goal of the game in the second period and added one more in the third period to cement the win.

''He was flying all over the ice, both sides of the puck,'' Eugene said about Crosby. ''When Sidney is moving his feet like that, he's such a strong guy. He's tough to contain. You could tell he was playing with a lot of confidence tonight, and he got rewarded for it.''
