Hockey can be a funny game and there are times when a strong effort goes unrewarded.  For the Sudbury Miners, that was the case on Wednesday night.

Mike Cammalleri broke a 2-2 tie with only 10 seconds remaining in the third period to give the Ottawa Barracuda a 3-2 win at the MTS Centre on Wednesday night.   With the loss, the Miners losing streak has now reached three games.

“I didn't see it (go in)," Cammalleri said. "I just heard the noise and saw the players around me. It just felt awesome”.  The goal was only Cammalleri’s second of the season.

Cody Eakin and Matt Moulson also scored for Ottawa, which had previously been winless in 9 games.  Jason Spezza also had two assists and Conner Hellebuyck made 20 saves in the win.

Winger Radim Vrbata had a goal and an assist for the Miners and extended his point streak to 4 games.  Chris Kelly has the other goal for the Miners, his first of the season.  Ben Bishop made 25 saves in the loss.

We didn't play well in the first and second period," Miners coach Derek Sutton said. "We have to realize that you need to play hard for the full 60.  We got what we deserved tonight."

The Miners have little time to think about this loss, as they are back at in on Thursday night, on the road versus the Dartmouth Lakers, much to the displeasure of coach Sutton.  When asked about it during the post-game press conference, Sutton did not hold back.

“Who in the league makes these schedules?!?” said Sutton.  “We play in Halifax, then have to jump on a plane to play in Ottawa the next night……then jump back on a plane to back to Dartmouth.  Does that make sense to you?   Halifax and Dartmouth are 15 minutes from each other…..and that is using the slow boat ferry to cross the harbor!   It’s just ridiculous”.

MINERS NUGGETS

- With the loss, the Miners drop to a league-worst 2-20-0 on the road.

- The Miners have recalled rookie Anthony Beauvillier from their AHL club in North Bay to add some depth.  He is not expected in the lineup on Thursday but may see action over the weekend.

- Coach Derek Sutton stated that Jake Allen will get the away start on Thursday versus the Lakers.
